Frequently asked questions

Where Porsche began.
Gmünd in Carinthia, 1948. In a small woodworking shop, the first vehicle that would bear the Porsche name was created. Today, the Helmut Pfeifhofer Automobile Museum preserves this legacy with passion, authenticity, and an unparalleled collection.
No other museum in the world can claim that.
They are standing at the place where Porsche truly began. Not just here, but here in Gmünd in Carinthia, where Ferdinand Porsche and his son Ferry shaped the first sports car legend in a modest workshop after the war.
The Porsche Automuseum Helmut Pfeifhofer is no ordinary museum. It is a place steeped in automotive history, personal memories, and genuine passion, run by a family that not only preserves the Porsche myth but lives it.
The collection ranges from the 356 Type 356 020 ALU and the amphibious hunting vehicle (1956) to historic racing cars and Austria's only police Porsche 911. A new special exhibition every year! 2026:
50 years of Porsche Transaxle; 75 years of Porsche Motorsport
